Who are we?

We're a group of five ECU final year SCIS students who are completing this project as a part of our course requirements. Obviously our project centres around the mobile computing field, though we are all studying towards very different majors.

Our project supervisor for this whole venture is Dr Alfred Tan, who is a senior lecturer in mobile computing at ECU. The unit which we are doing is a capstone unit run through SCIS known as CSG3303 Applied IT Project.

Our Project

Our project is being conducted to measure the factors and conditions which can affect a successful scan of 2D barcodes using mobile phones, and also how much weight is placed upon these factors. We will also be asking our participants some questions along to way to document their experience in using the 2D barcode scanners.

The criteria for participating in our research study are few and far between. Firstly you must be aged 18 years and over, and secondly you must not have previously participated in our study.

During the study, you will be asked to capture barcode samples of two different types of 2D barcodes using phones which we will provide at our testing booths. You will be asked to capture the images from different distances which have been marked out in the booth. Along the way we will ask you questions about how you are finding your experience and make sure that everything runs smoothly. The whole process shouldnt take you more than 5 minutes.

How good is that?!? Not only do you get to play around with this funky new technology, but you can also enter our prize draw to be in the running to win one of our fantastic prizes.
